Frank Liu Jr. believed music and art help children learn, bring people together, and enrich their lives. Founded in his honor, FLAMA will put that belief into practice.

FLAMA helps students succeed in school through the study of music and art. Students build knowledge, focus, persistence, and teamwork skills for school and future careers.
Frank Liu Jr. was a Houston musician, businessman, and supporter of his city. His curiosity and hard work took him from music to math to basketball.
In 2011, he co-founded Camp Culture, a summer music and arts camp at B.K. Bruce Elementary in the Fifth Ward, because budget cuts were taking the arts out of schools first. “The arts are the last things that should go,” he said. That camp became the seed for FLAMA.
Daily music, choir, instruments, and visual arts, woven into the school day to strengthen academic outcomes.
A strong foundation in reading, writing, and math, supported by music and art.
Practice that builds skills in school subjects, music, and art.
Children create their own work, explain their choices, and share their ideas.
Good meals help children learn. Sharing meals helps students and teachers get to know each other. Details → Academics & Arts › Meals
Families help make FLAMA a welcoming school. Parents and caregivers celebrate students' work and enjoy music and art together.
Meet the people building FLAMA, and join them. We’re hiring founding teachers and staff who believe strong academics and daily arts belong together.
